The identification of Christ with solar deities goes back to the eighteenth century, particularly in the Origine de tous les cultes, ou religion universelle (1795) by Charles Dupuis. Since the winter solstice, in the first century BC to first century AD, December 25, was taken as the rebirth of the sun, the attribution of the birth of Christ to that day identified him as a solar deity.
